About Accreditation
Accreditation in the AACD is recognized throughout the world as the path to excellence in cosmetic dentistry. Multiple lectures, hands-on workshops, and networking events are offered at the annual AACD scientific session to help attendees pursue AACD’s advanced credential. Our newly Accredited members will receive deserved recognition throughout the scientific session week.
Accreditation Written Examinations
for Dentists and Laboratory Technicians
The Accreditation Written Examination tests foundational knowledge in cosmetic dentistry. Passing the written examination starts the clock for
the five-year timeframe offered to fulfill the additional requirements for Accreditation.
For written examination eligibility:
- AACD membership in good standing (dentist or laboratory technician)
- Completed application and all applicable fees paid prior to beginning the written examination
The written examination will be administered on Thursday, April 29, 2010.
Pre-registration for written examination is required.

- Not registered for the 26th Annual AACD Scientific Session - download and complete
the written examination application and fax or mail it to the AACD Executive Office prior
to April 9, 2010.
After April 9, 2010, all written examination registrations will take place on-site. Registrations will not be taken the morning of the written examination.
Accreditation Courses Offered at the AACD Scientific Session
Accreditation Workshop
This is the first required workshop in the AACD’s Accreditation program and provides a detailed overview of the parameters of the Accreditation protocol. This course is open to all dentists and laboratory technicians attending the annual AACD scientific session.

Criteria Workshop
This is the second required workshop in AACD's Accreditation program. This course begins with a display of cases that have been both successful and unsuccessful, which are then evaluated by using criteria that Accreditation Examiners follow in judging clinical cases. The process of analyzing these cases is enlightening for anyone preparing to submit clinical cases for the Accreditation process.

Advanced Accreditation Workshop
The Advanced Accreditation Workshop provides an in-depth analysis of how Accreditation cases are judged, in addition to individuals having their own cases reliably critiqued. Although this workshop is not required, it is universally judged as the most helpful step for those approaching Accredited status. Attendees should take the two required workshops in the Accreditation process prior to attending this advanced course.
Attendees should bring clinical cases for review during the workshop on one PowerPoint disk/memory stick in widescreen format available for download at www.aacd.com.

Examiners' Calibration
Active examiners in the Accreditation program must attend this course in order to maintain active examiner status. This course can also be taken to fulfill the maintenance requirement for Accredited and Accredited Fellow members.

Laboratory Technician Accreditation Workshop
The Laboratory Technician Accreditation Workshop focuses on requirements in the laboratory technician Accreditation protocol, and provides an overview of the process as it specifically applies to laboratory technicians. All laboratory technicians interested in pursuing Accreditation in the AACD are encouraged to attend this workshop.

Photography Workshop for Accreditation Documentation
This workshop is designed to teach participants basic digital camera operation and focuses on documentation of cases. Techniques for improving the quality and consistency of clinical photography will be discussed. Mentors will be available to answer questions and provide clinical instruction. Attendees are required to bring their own cameras for the workshop. This is not a required course and attendance is limited.

Fellowship Workshop
Accredited members interested in advancing to the final step in AACD’s credentialing program are encouraged to attend this workshop. The protocol for Fellowship will be discussed and active AACD Accredited Fellows will be on-hand to discuss the program in-depth with attendees.

University Advisory Council Meeting
9th Annual University Advisory Council (UAC) Meeting
The AACD has established strong working relationships with 45 dental academic institutions around the world to provide education in the area of cosmetic dentistry. This partnership focuses on furthering cosmetic dental education, particularly as it relates to the goals and standards of the AACD Accreditation program. The AACD will host the 9th Annual UAC Meeting in conjunction with the 26th Annual AACD Scientific Session.

Private Educators Supporting Accreditation Meeting
7th Annual Private Educators Supporting Accreditation Meeting
The AACD’s Private Educators Supporting Accreditation mission is to develop a mutually beneficial relationship between the Academy and private post-graduate training facilities by sharing educational ideas so more AACD members receive the education needed to optimize their chances of achieving Accredited status and cosmetic dental excellence.
